Partnering to Protect Our Planet and Diver Safety

Promoting Scuba Diving Safety and Conservation

At JSIS, we have partnered with some amazing companies and organizations throughout the years. Please take a moment to learn more about them.

From our historic work in land acquisition to cutting-edge research that influences global policy, The Nature Conservancy is constantly adapting to take on our planet’s biggest, most important challenges. Our vision is a world where the diversity of life thrives, and people act to conserve nature for its own sake and its ability to fulfill our needs and enrich our lives.

We are scientists, explorers and stewards of the ocean. Driven by research, education and excitement we work to create a better environment for ourselves and our children. The answers are in the ocean. Together, we will find them.

We are an independent, nonprofit marine research institution comprised of world-class marine scientists committed to the belief that the conservation and sustainable use of our oceans begins with research and education.

No place in the Caribbean still demonstrates the architectural, economic, and political influence of Europe like Christiansted National Historic Site. Come wander through 18th century buildings in one the Caribbean's few urban parks. It is a unique experience that you will never forget. You can also visit historic Buck Island. Buck Island was first established as a protected area by the U.S. Government in 1948, with the intention of preserving “one of the finest marine gardens in the Caribbean Sea.” The U.S. National Monument was created in 1961 by John F. Kennedy and greatly expanded in 2001 by Bill Clinton. Buck Island National Monument is one of few places in the Virgin Islands where brown pelicans and threatened least terns nest.

According to well-known science, 70% of the Earth is covered by water. The ocean provides most of the oxygen we breathe. It's a major source of the world's food supply. Many promising medical breakthroughs lie beneath its surface. There's a big picture many miss. Whether you know it or not, the ocean affects us every day. Ocean First Education is full of passionate educators, scientists, divers, and explorers seeking to guide users to a greater understanding and appreciation of ocean science and conservation. Through in-depth, multidisciplinary instruction, we take our students to the intersection of fascination and education, creating a deep connection with the ocean's vital marine ecology.

DAN exists to provide expert medical information for the benefit of the diving public. DAN's historical and primary function is to provide timely information and assistance for underwater diving injuries, to work to prevent injuries, and to promote dive safety. DAN also promotes and supports underwater dive research and education, particularly as it relates to the improvement of dive safety, medical treatment, and first aid. Finally, DAN strives to provide the most accurate, up-to-date, and unbiased information on issues of common concern to the diving public, primarily but not exclusively for dive safety.

North Carolina Aquariums

The North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island was established in 1976 to promote an awareness, understanding, appreciation, and conservation of the diverse natural and cultural resources of North Carolina's ocean, estuaries, rivers, streams, and other aquatic environments. NCARI was the first aquarium to allow JSIS to use their exhibits for dive students during the winter months.

Project AWARE

Project AWARE Foundation is a growing movement of scuba divers protecting the ocean, one dive at a time. Our focus is on two major ocean issues: sharks in peril and marine debris, or trash in our ocean. There are many conservation issues converging on our ocean planet at once, but we're concentrating on these serious problems where scuba divers are uniquely positioned to directly and positively affect real, long-term change.
