Joshua Simmonds has been diving since 2018. Originally from Michigan, Joshua moved to Florida to find exciting opportunities in the marine science field. He began working with JSIS in 2023 because he was interested in furthering his SCUBA diving knowledge and skillset. Joshua is JSIS’ Director of Programs. He is responsible for maintaining efficient communications between staff members and overseeing all programs.


Joshua is a divemaster and has certifications in many areas, including wreck diving, rescue/CPR, and using full face masks. He is also a certified Aquanaut. Joshua has a BSc in Integrative Biology from Michigan State University and a MSc from the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (RSMAS). Joshua has used his education to work in many areas, including Quintana Roo, Juno Beach, and Key Largo. Additionally, Joshua has experience teaching SCUBA diving methodology to inexperienced students, ranging from young children to college students.
When Joshua isn’t working or teaching, he is either reading, diving, or exploring the many natural parks and tourist destinations of South Florida.
